IIRC it can affect the HVAC system, more so when you use aircon

When mine was broken my idle speed was about 200rpm too high.

I've broken one before, teh one clipped above front under-tray, and no adverse effect. NB for me - did not affect idle speed.

But as said above - very easy (no tools nor jacking-up of car reqd) and cheap, to swap. Comes with a cable back to the connector, and its the cable that will have been pinched/cut mostly likely.
