E39 540i PAS Pump Recommendations?
Discussion
My lad has bought himself a slightly broken E39 saloon 540i - PAS pump sheared, common problem apparently.
It looks to be a simple job (42 years of spannering man and boy) but I'm not sure what brand of pump to go for. TRW, Stark, DRI, Ridex - lots to choose from.
Does anyone have any recommendations please?
Also, does anyone have advice about other stuff to change or check whilst the PAS is in bits?
I'm mostly a TVR chap (apologies fellas) so Zee German auto experience is new to me.

Personally I'd buy a known working one from a breaker or one that's been refurbed than fit anything aftermarket. It looks to be a simple job (42 years of spannering man and boy) but I'm not sure what brand of pump to go for. TRW, Stark, DRI, Ridex - lots to choose from.

Yep, different to straight 6, these are the ones I've been looking at: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/power-steering...
There are several versions for the V8 and they seemed to have changed them for specific models (e.g. X5) and years.

Just for completeness I decided against buying a cheap pump and took the advice to get one from a breaker. Quarry Motors in Sheffield came up with the goods, a used LUK pump (BMW original fit part). Stripped, checked, cleaned and reassembled with a coat of paint on the pulley all good.
We can still use the internals from the old pump if/when the new one starts to go bad and I plan to make a steel bracket to strengthen the silly aluminium mounting ears as a fail safe to the thread lock and double locking nuts on the fastenings.

Quarry are a good source, can be expensive at times though I've found
