Salt spray trucks on motorway
Discussion
I just went pass a this big salt spray truck on M6, I tried to avoid but had to go past him as he doing 40mph.
Can this spray damage your car paint? I see small tiny chips in my bonnet can't recall whether it's stone chips or from this salt spray truck..
Did this happen to anyone else? It's on my bmw 440i ??

If it makes you feel better this happened to me when my car was 2 days old.
It had 25 miles on at the time of it happening and I was doing 60mph.
I was tired at the time so didn’t react but it had the amber light flashing at the top and was coming in the opposite direction spitting grit all out the back which I then went flying through at 60.
It sounded hurrendous.
Pulled in at the next fuel station a few miles away and tbh there was minimal damage to the paint just bent fins on the radiator which I know weren’t bent before.
A slight chip which was into the paint but not too deep, touched it in a few days later and never thought of it again.

Cleaned csr today and got a lot of tiny holes from the gritter gutted! Even on top of bumper. Tried to clean it and wipe it and ended up taking some paint beneath it as well looks pretty awful now
Any idea how much a repray would cost for bonnet and front bumper? I live In Rugby, Warwickshire .

This is going to sound very dismissive, it isn't meant to.

There are resprays & there are resprays, you could get somewhere do it for £100 or £2000 depending on how far you want to go & how good you want it.
You really need to go round a few body shops (insurance/BMW approved will likely be better = more expensive) and see there work & get prices, that way you know what you are actually getting for your money.
Part of the problem is, modern water based paints are as resilient as the older solvent based paints - They are however, much better for the environment, and better for the health of those who work with the paints, day in/day out.
One dilemma when passing a gritter on a motorway is: What speed to pass it at?
Pass it slowly, and you spend more time with the salt hitting your vehicle.
Pass it quickly, and you spend less time in the path of the salt, but you accelerate the speed that the salt hits your vehicle.
Tough call!
