Hi all

My 2019 11,000 miles 520d is due it’s first service based on being 2 years old.

I’ve rung around a number of dealers, all quoting £380! Cannot believe the cost for a 2.0 diesel even though it includes a micro filter. Specialist quoted £230.

I know it doesn’t impact warranty using a specialist, but is there any downside. Will probably keep the car 3-4 years so trade in May be a factor.

Also can you still purchase service packs on BMWs of this age (Mar 2019 registered) prior to first service?

The dealer will be charging you circa £25 a litre for oil.

Have a look on line at how much you can buy LL04 oil for.

Get a quote from the dealer for the service but with you providing the oil..save yourself about £80.

All the dealer will want is LL04 spec oil in the original container

The micro filter is c£100 RRP. Does the indie service include this?
The servicing on these is expensive for what is done. I made myself feel better by remembering the c£120 services I used to have on my old Rover 418d in the late 90s. They were every 6,000 miles so with inflation the BMW is cheaper to maintain overall wobble

It will be out of warranty(unless you've taken out the BMW insured warranty).
Get a price from an Indi then decide what to do. Not sure if the 2.0 diesel still suffers from the timing chain snapping but if they are now reliable I would take it to indie .Mine can even update the Idrive history for service work they do although that is not a guarantee that BMW will accept that should the timing chain go pop.
