Our M140i will require a service next month based in age (2 years), rather than miles.

We are in lockdown here in NI and whilst we "could" likely get the car serviced at the BMW main dealers it could be considered unnecessary travel.

It would be a 30 mile return trip to drop it off one evening, and a 30 mile return trip to pick it up the next.

Whats BMWs angle on this in these times? If it was a month or two late would that matter, given the current situation?

If i ring the main dealer, i think they'll tell us whats best for them (ie, get the car booked in with them for a service).

Anyone any experience?

If we have to we will but dont want to right now if we dont have to.

As far as I'm concerned, car maintenance is essential. Garages and dealerships (and bodyshops) are still open for work.

I would get it serviced according to schedule.

Definitely. The majority of retailers are running at reduced capacity currently with a number of staff furloughed so will be glad of your business to offset their costs.

There may be a reduced service offering (no waiting appointments/collection and delivery, etc) but the dealers are Covid safe and open for Repairs and maintenance.

At nearly 2 years old there is probably a 50% chance your oil filter will break up on removal necessitating a new filter housing so I would recommend you use a main dealer rather than independent as this would be covered under warranty.

I would get it booked.
