All-Season Tyres for a G31 520 Touring
Discussion
Just under a year ago I bought an M-Sport 520d xDrive. It came with 18” wheels, 245/45 tyres on the front and 275/40 on the back. Fast forward to now and I’ve just moved jobs and relocated to Speyside. My job means I need to travel around lots of different distilleries, some of which are fairly remote up single track roads that never see a gritter. No problem, I thought, I’ll fit some all-season tyres. Wrong. The 275/40 doesn’t seem to exist in all-season, I’ve tried every brand I can think of and nobody does them.
My options seem to be:
a) buy a set of winter wheels and tyres
b) buy 2 new back wheels the same width (8J) as the fronts
c) buy a new set of four wheels with all-season tyres and sell my current wheels
I don’t really want to keep two sets of wheels as I’m in a temporary rented house with no garage. Anyone got any thoughts on how best to sort this out?

Another question- is there any benefit to having wider back tyres on a 4wd car with less than 200hp? BMW themselves seem unsure of this as they seem fairly inconsistent in speccing it.
Not always about power, more to do with the car being RWD and you want the power out down on the drive wheels, so the wider tyres aids traction... Well , that's how I see it and similar to posts I've read etc

Fit Michelin Crossclimate and leave them in all year round. As we do.
Good tyres, had them on my E36 328.Must admit, found it hard to get them in the certain sizes (esp the rears for BMW staggered set ups) though.

Get a set of winter wheels and tyres from BMW they will also store your summer set.
Good option. The previous owner of my X5 used to do that, swapping between 20 inch Dunlop summers and 18 inch Continental winters. What size options for winter tyres does it have in the handbook?
eBay might be your best bet for a square set up of steelies with winters.

I've got these on my wife's car so on snowy days I can just leave the BMW at home. OP, could you perhaps go for a different width tyre to get some all seasons on there? Alloys normally accept a variety of widths.
