Wondered if anyone on here has any ideas, car is a 2018 F31 340i with ID6, Professional Plus media. I may bite the bullet and do the necessary to get Carplay in it (think I need the wifi antenna and the necessary coding) but for now I'd just like it to function!

My iphone (a 7 with latest firmware) connects fine to it using a USB in the armrest and also using bluetooth. It streams via bluetooth OK and also plays via USB (although if you allow it to use bluetooth it decides it cannot any longer use the USB for streaming - I deselect bluetooth music streaming and all seems OK).

It's a little bit clunky navigating for stuff but I'm used to carplay. In that regard I'd be happy to live with it for now.

However, the issue I have is that after a while it seems to lose the ability to search the phone for stuff like albums, artists etc. Those options become greyed out. It still plays, shows album art etc but all I can do is skip forward and back on tracks and it'll just repeat an album.

This seems to occur after a little while in the car but once happened it'll only go back to behaving after the car has been off for a fair while. Unplugging and reconnecting doesn't fix it and I've tried several cables both official apple ones and aftermarket. It's the same with all of them. Having said all this, today it has done it from cold start.

So, any ideas? Is there some sort of setup issue I'm missing or is there something wrong? I've pored over the manual but can't find an answer. Dealer are suggesting bring it in but if possible I'd rather avoid that until I'm properly sure I've done everything I can.

I've got a pre-LCI 2015 F31 with the Pro Media, but just NBT system (non-Evo).

Can't say I've suffered the same issue, but then I've only had it on for about 30 miles or an hour at a time, and it's connected to an iPhone 12 Pro.

I have a 2014 5 series running the big ‘pro nav’ screen, so not exactly the same, but I have had similar issues.

What I’ve sussed out is- under ‘bluetooth’ you kinda get a dumb connection. Basically it will happily play/ stream whatever music etc.... from your phone, but you do not get the full controls through the idrive controller/ screen except basic skip track functions. you’d need to use the phone to navigate/ search etc.....

usb/ wired connection- you get a ‘smart’ connection with the full search/ idrive/ menus/ selections from the phone.

I think your phone/ car is somehow disconnecting the wired connection and going back to bluetooth. Do you have the ‘bmw connected’ app on your phone??
