Very hard to tell from that pic. It’s a coolant hose. Pop your chassis No into Realoem website and you can find the part No.

Have you followed that small coolant hose, to see what it’s connected to ?

I think the problem is the larger hose, which has a plastic take off point which has snapped off. (All advice based on one pic!)

That's the one I think, is that the part number you gave me?

Have a look here. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=PM71...
If the line goes to the expansion tank then it could be number 1?
These diagrams are a big help

yeah I think that's it. admittedly I panicked a bit, just a glance under the bonnet and saw something plastic broke off, I assumed momentarily it was some sort of housing, but when helix sent a part number, similar hoses started to pop up, so went for a closer look and that's what it seems to be, a top hose, still a bummer as the car is out of action till i get it replaced.. The part number is different from above, was Helix mistaken from my crap pic, or because the site you showed me seemed to be American? Just curious, are part number the same the world over, for example an American hose the same part No as a European hose if it's the same?

Go to the login page for realoem and you can put the last 6 digits of your chassis number in, and that will bring up your car and the part numbers. It is a US site. Helix has probably forgotten more about BMWs than I will ever know.

Yep, RealOEM should allow you to find the exact part number.

Failing that, perhaps if you could take a (zoomed out) photo of the hose in the engine bay, we can see which one it is?

I wouldn’t trust the part no I gave, as others have suggested have a good look on realoem.

thank you, I must say I didn't look at the problem that closely. I saw the large metal clip, then seemingly a plastic housing not realising it was all part of the top hose. However because of your number you have me I had a quick peek on google, then went to look closer at the problem, then realised it was all part of the same component. I've changed top hoses loads of times over the years on various cars and the top hose is just a jubilee clip straight on to the rad with no 'guf' in between. Thanks for your time though, I just need to source one asap now, cheers!!

Your local dealer will be as good as anyone; they'll be able to tell you if there's any in stock / the UK / or if it has to come from Germany.
