Spare BMW for car I've sold

I had two keys with my last BMW and I miss placed the spare key during moving house, and sold car shortly after.

I had to pay hundreds to get a replacement key so I could sell it with two keys.

The spare original key has just turned up.

Assume you cannot flash the keys and sell them? Like, once they've been written, can't be over written with key code?

Otherwise, guess I can give it to the new owner and he'll be happy to have very expensive free third key.
