I bought my 540i xdrive new in March 2020. I have the BMW connected app and also have a pay monthly service plan for the car. I also told them i was expecting to do 12k miles each year.

The app is telling me that there is an engine oil service due in March 2021 (next month). Being the good customer I am, I called up to book it in, and have been told that it's not due a service for two years after the purchase date, so March 2022. I explained that the app says March 2021 but she was adamant, even though she did say she would book it in if I wanted her to?

Anyway, just wanted to check that I'm ok to leave it for another 12 months (currently under 6k miles on the car due to covid), have to say, I'm not a big fan of the two year service intervals (and may do an oil change next month myself if it's not a big job?). If it needs to go in, no problem, but I don’t really want to pay the main dealer (£400+) for an oil change if it doesn’t need one, and waste one of my services.

I have sent an email to the bmw service plan dept asking the same, so I have something in writing. Thanks

What does idrive in the car say?

Also initial services are normally 2 years from the cars build date, not the date it's registered. My car has its initial service (Inc oil change) at 19 months as a result.

My idrive says 03/2021 as well, I remember the dealer telling me it was two years service intervals. I think I may have been sold a dud one? wink

It's variable based on type of use, isn't it? So if you've been doing lots of cold starts and short journeys then likely it'll call for an oil change sooner. Some systems monitor fuel consumption and how many times the throttle was wide open. There might be an optical or dielectric oil quality monitor.

You hear of this happening on Audis - some dealers are adamant it needs doing, others just reset the service indicator.

I'm also wondering if maybe the main dealer didn't reset everything when I picked it up?

So 03/21 is two years from the manufacture date rather than sold/ registration date?

Is there a way I can find out the date of manufacture on a beemer?

I'm thinking the 1 yr date may have soemthing to do with the fact I told them i was going to be driving 12k miles per year. With COVID I've only done half that.

I may wait until the car tells me it needs a service, i think mine has the automatic service call function on it?

Unless you’re waiting for a voice to appear, I’d say the car has already told you smile

Ask your retailer to look at the build date on S-gate. Almost certainly the car is now 2 years from manufacture hence the service notification. If you go too far over it will show as red on the I drive service history so it is worth clarifying.

In my experience if the I drive is saying service due then a dealership will do it.

The service interval depends on many things including driving stryle/ type of journey.

Its a maximum of 2 years between services but the car will tell you when its due in date and miles. Its whichever comes first.

My wifes X1 was a stock car. It was PDI d in November as it was ordered and specced as a showroom car.. but we bought it brand new within days of delivery to the dealer.

Owing to a complicated house move it wasnt registered till Feb. but the service dates were set based on the PDI the previous November
