Service interval shenanigans
Discussion
I collected my 4-series in December 2019 and now, 15 months and 6,000 miles later, it wants a service. But the service interval is 2 years / 18,000 miles so what gives?
According to the dealer who supplied it, because it was manufactured in March 2019 and "the oil gets more viscous even if the engine isn't being used" it's 2 years from date of manufacture.
In addition to the service, there is a mandatory "standard scope" which is, according to the advisor, "for the engineer to check the warning lights".
It is also, apparently, a condition of the PCH agreement that it is serviced by BMW.

Has the mileage/date suddenly changed over the last few days ?According to the dealer who supplied it, because it was manufactured in March 2019 and "the oil gets more viscous even if the engine isn't being used" it's 2 years from date of manufacture.

Or has it be warning you about the estimated mileage/date since December 2019 ?

As an aside what do you think of the car. I am looking around at the moment and the 420i petrol sport is high on my list, although it will be a 2018 car most likely.
Lovely interior, iDrive is great, mine has a few nice options that were thrown in (heated steering wheel, auto-dimming door mirrors, puddle lights etc.)It needs driving fairly hard, certainly if you're used to a diesel. It's not slow, but it's not effortless. Sport mode and gearbox setting helps.
For £299 a month you can't go wrong - not sure if that deal is around any more though.
