Left my 4GC on the CTEK for 3 weeks. Checked every week and all good. In float mode. Week 3, I found the CTEK MXS5 connector to be quite hot! Disconnected and reconnected but car wouldn’t charge. Looks like it hadn’t been charging for a few days. The voltage was 12.3v. The CTEK maintains it at 12.9-13.1v.

Did the car by any chance go into a deep sleep where the IBS shut things down?

Drove it today. Put it back on charge and all is well. Reconditioning it as I type this. Voltage steadily climbing.

I know cars sleep after say 15 minutes and the 12v socket etc. power down but can a car go into an even deeper sleep? Is that what happened here?

Thank you

Presume you’re connected to the charge points in the engine bay ?

If so, the only thing I’d expect to see between those points and the battery, is a mega fuse. Certainly not a relay or diode of any description.

It would make more sense, that your charger detected something, and stopped charging, IMO.

Edit to say, I’ve started seeing some cars at work with li-ion batteries of late, and they do have a relay in them.

But I’d expect your BMW to have an older school lead acid, in it.

It has an AGM stop star batt.
I was surprised though. I’ve fit and forgot cars for months at time on CTEK.
Sounds plausible may be it was interrupted and something happened.
Yes connected under the bonnet.
