Hi Guys

I have 4 run flat tyres on my 440i gran coupe. My question is can I replace these tyres for normal ones ? Will it affect its handling, ride quality if I do? Keep hearing that the normal non run flats got a better ride quality and handling.

Any advise on this?

Thanks

This one where opinions will always differ.

Yes the run-flats give a very firm ride but someone like me who does 20k motorway miles a year appreciates the benefits of run-flats having had several punctures over the 7 year period that my cars have used them.

You can change them but remember to have some form of back up in case of a puncture. Either a repair kit of some people look for a spare wheel but then you need to think of how to carry it and also having a jack etc.

You might also need to inform your insurance company.

Go Michelin Pilot Sport 3 Zero Pressure , super summer tyre without giving up the run flat benefits . The side wall markings are just "ZP" .

Thanks.

I don't do much motorway miles except seeing my family.

Not sure what's the best performance non run flat tyres would give me that handling and ride quality over run flats.

Anything Michelin ... PS4 or PS4S.

Stunning grip from Michelin PS4 s and I ditched the runflats, they are wheel crackers with lower profile tyres and every time you go over a tiny bump the car crashes and bangs. Much better ride without them

I've been running Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 RFTs for a few years on 19" wheels without adaptive suspension. The ride is fine and a complete set is only £30 more than normal tyres.

It really must depend on the car then or factory suspension set up, but the ride in my 335i was unacceptable, the smallest of bumps felt like huge pot holes crashing away. The same bumps on my daily work run with non runflats, well it felt like a normal car going over normal bumps. Believe me I have had some stiff cars over the years but that ride was woeful

General consensus is better ride, handling and noise versus the ability to drive to a garage should you have a puncture. Most people seem to play the odds and pick the former.

When my Bridgestone Turanza RFTs need replacing, I'll be ditching them for either Michelin PS4S or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5. Leaning towards the latter.
