F11 - 320d or 330d
Discussion
Was looking at getting a new big estate, below £6k and 10 years old or younger.
Originally tried with superbs and passats, but an early f11 320d isn't much more and is a much nicer car.
According to some friends the 520d has a number of engine issues to worry about whilst the 530d is solid as a rock.
What is peoples experiences on here? I've seen a higher mileage one local that has alot of receipts and one previous owner, are these cars that can do mega mileage with some tlc or a money pit regardless?

Are you sure you mean an F11 - that's a 5-series - so a 520d 530d.
If you really mean the 320d/330d Touring, then that's an F31.
Either way, I'd go for the 330D in both - although you will pay more for a x30d over a x20d.
If you're looking at an auto, then depending on the mileage you're considering, check if it's ever had a gearbox oil service, as BMW say 'sealed for life' whereas the gearbox manufacturer says service every 60,000 miles.
They're both available with the older, more troublesome 20d N47 engines (cross-over in 2015) and then they got the B47.
The detail of the receipts is as important as the amount/value on them. Lots of receipts for servicing/consumables and nothing big for repairs then it might mean that it's been good as gold...or the seller has hidden them to make the car look reliable.
Use the free MOT History service to see if there's any advisories appearing year after year.
