2015 Active Tourer 225i XDrive.
Had the car for a couple of months now and we needed to use the satnav 'properly' this last week. It became apparent that the maps are out of date as a chunk of journey was through green fields ! I always have an uptodate road atlas in the car for such eventualities and we used that.
After much fiddling and swearing at the idrive I eventually found the map data. It is...

Europa BMW Group
101143.3.412
Road Map Europe Route 2015-2A
RL_EntryNav_Nav-F14421A

So how do I go about getting it up to date. On my old Garmin it was just an SD card to replace, simple.

1. I can contact my local main dealer in Peterborough and ask them to do it. Any idea of costs ?
2. I can contact my local independent BMW place in Huntingdon and ask them. Any idea of costs ?
3. I can go online, Ebay or Google. As I am totally new to BMW I have no idea what I need and early impressions are BMW do not do simple and easy.
Do I have to get a DVD and put that in or use an USB stick. If so what am I looking for and is it some thing that can be done without a Doctorate in computer sciences ? And what is all this about access codes ?
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Brian.

Official way...

If you haven’t already done it, set up a BMW ID and go to ‘connected drive’

https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/shop/ls/cp/connected-driv...

That will show you all the services your car is currently subscribed to.

You can get the connected app for your phone, too. As well as an owners manual specific to your vehicle.

Check to see if you have an active subscription for usb map updates, if not you can buy one, or better still, buy it as part of one of the packages.

From there using a PC, you download the latest map to your computer, then transfer it to a USB device, then pop the usb device into your car for the transfer.

Many thanks.
I did set up a BMW id for myself but the connected drive page does not open for me, just a "We're currently on the way" message so I have no idea if the car is connected or not, I would suspect it is not.
I'll have a read of the connected drive services to see if it will be of any use for me.
Cheers
Brian.

If you haven’t already done it, it may be worth putting the connected app, on your phone. Once your car/vin is registered, you can click on ‘hub’, then you’ll see ‘booked subscriptions’, and it’ll show you what you already have.

And it will show ‘Available subscriptions’ for the stuff you can buy.

Map updates and real time traffic are the only one’s I really use. I think you can get them as part of a £99 package, or buy them individually.

In November, they tend to do deals for Black Friday. 50% off is the best I’ve seen, but it was closer to 25% last year.

The unofficial way... you can download the map you require for free from forums (I use GPS power) and then buy a lifetime FSC code from an online vendor for £20. That way you can download subsequent updates free of charge.
