Bmw 525i automatic issues
Discussion
Hi there my Bmw daily is giving me trouble when car warms up and these codes have displayed!. Is the gearbox shot?.
works fine again when cooled down for a minute but transmission fault shows in display again and goes into limp.

t with generic diagnostics, you want to get something bmw specific like inpa to get a more accurate diagnosis. how is the fluid colour and level?
Ah sorry missed the fluid bit :-/ colour is new fresh oil and level is correct when last filled a year ago but only recently started driving it as I got a huge yellow and red warning about abandoned vehicle so thought I’d better get it on the road and now this!!!

How would I modify it if it’s allowed to ask? Cheers
I cant remember exactly now, as it was around 5 years ago, but I just followed a guide online, it was very straightforward. Before I got that I was led down the garden path a few times getting incorrect and misleading codes from my generic scanner.
It certainly came in handy, my older bmws liked to throw challenging and unusual faults on a regular basis.

Re codes; check the voltage of your battery; engine off it should be c12.4v, engine running it should be c14.4v
Any less than this and you'll get weird codes thrown, these cars do not like low voltages. Could also show signs of a failing alternator
Do this first; it's a cheap fix in the long rune before you start delving into possible autobox issues
What year / model is it? That determines what cable & software you need.
P0705 usually meant the gear selector switch needs replacing.
P0500 would be an ABS sensor, but impossible to know which one with generic software.
How healthy is your battery?

may I ask how the oil level was set?Edited by micky1786 on Friday 23 April 00:34
You need much more in-depth diagnostics, you could have a simple electrical fault or something more sinister

Sorry didn’t get any notifications for replies for some reasons. Before I got that I was led down the garden path a few times getting incorrect and misleading codes from my generic scanner.

I’ll get in it as I don’t want to be sourcing a box which is like a needle in a haystack so far. Tried another code reader as it was available yesterday.

As said; speak to Jimmy at Cable Shack and get the correct tools of him for the diagnostics; you ned INPA or Carly for BMW at a minimum IMO

Thanks for the info, yes I’ve realised low battery voltage brings up all sorts of crazy codes and lights in the bmw haha stupid car :-/Re codes; check the voltage of your battery; engine off it should be c12.4v, engine running it should be c14.4v

Don’t have a clue what these are?, stores faults perhaps?.

Hi it’s a 2004 bmw 525i se E60 automatic with sport shift from what I know. Batter was replaced over a year ago brand new as someone smarty had a small car battery fitted hahaha I’ve fitted the correct amperage one in but car say for over a year so battery has been dead a good few times if that makes any odds?. Thanks P0705 usually meant the gear selector switch needs replacing.

I couldn’t tell you exactly how as I wasn’t under the car when the mechanic filled it but he did use 6 bottles of transmission fluid as they were all empty once he finished and engine was running on last fills.
