I currently have an F15 X5 X30d M Sport and am considering a 2021 version. My understanding was air suspension was standard on the X5 (UK) but looking on the UK build front and rear air suspension is an optional extra (as part of a package) so it now makes me think it’s not and wondered if anyone can clear it up please? Does the M sport have no air suspension unless spec’d or is it that it’s rear only but can spec front and rear?

I’m pretty sure my F15 has air suspension but the above now has me questioning it, did the F15 X5 M Sport have air suspension as standard and if so was it front and rear or rear only? I can choose between comfort and sport suspension.

If the F15 has air suspension but the G05 doesn’t, how does the G05 adaptive suspension compare?

Air suspension was standard on the G05 from launch. However, there is a worldwide shortage of parts required to fit so the car has now been changed to steel suspension until parts can be sourced. The price has recently been reduced to reflect the change.

Huge shame really, as a G05 30d on air was fantastic, whereas the 50d on the adaptive steel suspension was much less comfortable.

And yes, the F15 was also on air.

Thanks very much. That is a shame, and what’s doubly annoying is the air suspension is part of a package. On its own the air suspension in £700 (IF you could order on its own), but the package is over £2k IIRC. when did it stop being air?

Only very recently (within the last 6 weeks or so). Should revert back once available again.

Ok thanks. I bet that’s why there’s an offer at the moment then.

I believe the F15 only has air on the rear....self levelling functionality.

You can't change the ride height etc like you can on a full air set up. The various adaptive settings for sport, comfort etc are adjusting the damper settings, separate from the spring / air springs.

Thanks, it’s very confusing. So what’s the advantage/disadvantage of air suspension over springs for day to day driving?

Generally speaking for day to day driving it would be smoother and more pleasant...honestly on the F15 X5 I find the ride a bit bouncy and harsh at times. That is much improved in the G05 air sprung cars...

Thanks. Odd, I find the F15 really soft and squidgy, in a good way smile
