So i have a longer commute in my 640 and I've been looking into a retrofit for apple carplay so i can choose podcasts easier, control BBC sounds and maybe use Waze. I can use Spotify and Audible BMW Apps and they work quite well so its not a dead cert that i would pay the £££ for the retrofit.

However, from doing some research, it seems as though as i have NBT ID5, then some coding through a USB stick could activate it, and the price for such a USB stick can range from £80 to £299. The other option seems to be to spend £600 on a piece of kit attached to the back of the headunit to do the same job.

Anyone got any experience of the coding route?

If carplay is available via the connected drive store then it’s easy. My old 3 series with ID5 had it as an option in the store but don’t know if the 5/6 series had the hardware for it. If I remember correctly there is ID5 and ID5 lite with the latter being little more than a skin/theme over the later ID4 hardware
