20% off BMW dealer servicing until June
Discussion
Hi All - car due a service in 14k miles or September this year.
Only really driving it 2k to 3k miles / year at the moment but last oil service done in September 2019 @ 10k miles where it now has 14k miles.
I’m keen to remain with BMW dealer servicing even though it is now 3.5 years old.
My question is around the current 20% off BMW servicing deal - should I bring forward the September service to June to save 20% (perhaps £50)? Would the service indicator reset again, i.e I’d hope if I went ahead in June 2021 to benefit from the deal, that the September 2021 due date would be null and void and so the counter would start again but from June 2021? Also would BMW not even see me if the service indicator (amber) light wasn’t showing as I’m not yet due?
Any advice gratefully received - many thanks.

Do keep in mind that after 4 years old the car will qualify for the bmw value service which is discounted servicing for cars over 4 years. So I doubt you’ll be saving anything by bringing the servicing forward and some dealerships will service a car and not change the date of the next service. Although with it being as close as it is I would hope they would.

Many thanks - I had heard of the value servicing but wasn’t sure when it kicked in. It’ll be 4 y/o in September at the service due date in which case maybe it’ll qualify then for the cheaper service. Thanks for the tip!ukpolak said:

If you can find a car reg for the same model at 4 years old already you’ll be able to get a quote online and see what it costs.Just for a comparison my M4 went in last September at 6 years old for an oil service, brake fluid and a real diff service and it cost £298. My sisters 420i GC at 2 years old went in for its oil service and it cost £387! Utter madness.
OK yes - first service after 2 years of ownership / 10k miles was £313.24 (oil service with microfilter) then second service after 3 years of ownership / 13k miles was £150.34 (brake fluid svc, EOW check, MOT). Tbh i can't complain compared to some old bangers which were £700/year in breakdowns and servicing! I always booked via the web or BMW apps and compared local BMW dealers to get to the best price. Apparently online booking is a lot cheaper than calling to book.
The value service is a really good call so I may hang on - thanks again. I always like a bargain so wondered if this was worthwhile.

According to the website, which you can check yourself also it’s looking like:
£492.70 for the 4 year service which will be £394.16 with 20% off
You’ll also be required to get the 4 year vehicle check if you’re keeping the car under warranty or to keep the service log up to date. That’s usually £62.35 but is £49.88 with the 20% off
So it’s a decent. That was looking at 2018 440i and the price doesn’t seem to change under the value service randomly. You’ll need to make sure that if you do take up the offer that the garage accepts online bookings to get the 20%.

Many thanks for your help. I booked ahead of reading your post
Engine oil service with micro filter, air filter and spark plugs = £492.70
Standard scope = £20.78
Total = £513.48
20% discount = £102.70
Total = £410.78
So I need to cancel and add that component you mentioned above. I have the extended BMW warranty and want to preserve that. I didn’t realise that extra service was a necessity to maintain it and will look in to it from the service webpage as well as warranty T&C pages.

Dropped car off this morning and taking advantage of the 20% off deal. Apparently it was subsidised presumably by BMW Group (??).
Just noteworthy was that in all previous service appointments, at 07:45 the dealership was always heaving with folks dropping off their cars (car park full, queue to drop off keys) but today I was literally the only one.
I wonder if (1) people no longer drop off early if WFH so have more flexibility during the day or (2) time / condition based servicing means that lower mileages is leading to fewer servicing needs. Or perhaps a better and cheaper Indy has opened up down the road :-)
Thanks for the tips on booking and price.

Possibly the fact people are being flexible with their time. I usually get a wait appointment so I’m booked for a certain time and then out. Fine to do a non wait appointment if you’re back in the office working all day and can get picked up 4:30/5pm but a lot of people aren’t at the moment.
Depending on if people have been driving, they may not have noticed they’ve a service due. I told my sister at Christmas her 4 series GC would be due a oil service at year 2, she hadn’t been driving the car and it was only when she was alerted by the dealer that she checked. Claimed to be totally unaware, which didn’t wash with me as I had told her she just hadn’t bloody listened.
Glad you’re all sorted. Just need to get out for a nice drive in the sun.
