Hi all

I have a 1995 Alpina B3 (e36 325) and I need to reset the abs light. It has an OBD1 socket under the bonnet. I don’t have a fault code reader. Any quick way of doing this without one or what reader should I purchase? I’ve tried the 24 hour battery off. Thanks in advance.

E36 ABS lights self reset once the fault has been cured. If it stays on with the car driven, a fault is still present. A good fault code reader can tell you where the problem is but really, you need something like INPA on a car that old on a reader that screws into the underbonnet diagnostic socket.

INPA is certainly a very good option, but on an e36 you’ll need an ADS interface to talk to the ABS. An ADS interface also needs a proper 9 pin serial port on your laptop. It won’t work with USB to serial cables.

Many thanks for your responses much appreciated. I recycled through the “check” procedure using the button on the dash and the light has cleared. The car has been stored for 18 months so assume the car needs more use.
