e45 bmw key fobs problems
Discussion
EDIT... E46 BMW
Need help with a weird problem.
Last week had a intermittent keyfob problem where it would lock {sometimes} unlock {sometimse} and not at all and next day it would work once and nothing rest of the day.
Now I've got two fobs (diamond shape) and both where doing the same, by last tues both stopped totally working. Will say i know about gm5 probs but as my central locking was working by the key in the lock and centre console button i discounted that.
So doing some research the diversity antenna popped up as a possible culprit so ordered a 2nd hand one which came last friday, fitted sameday and all good working perfectly.Roll on to today its back with keyfob not working all the time.
Have checked fuses, car battery good and broken wires, all good, batteries in remote don't suddenly stop working by googling so don't think its that, so i'm really stumped.
One last thing, i cant sync the keys (just in case they need doing) by doing the steps on the net, tried loads of times.

If both fobs are behaving the same, then I would say it has to be something in the car.
The only thing that controls the door locks is the GM5 module.
I know you said you discounted that because the locks work from the button inside the car, but each switch may take a different route through the GM5. For example I have a 2003 325i and some of the windows don't work correctly from the door switches, but do work correctly from the switches on the centre console. I've swapped door switches around as well with no difference, so it's not the switches (read key fob in your case).
I know they are a pain to swap out, with the programming that is required, but my bet would be on your GM5 module.
Happy to be corrected though as I have been known to be wrong.
