I was in a garage this afternoon looking at a leaking pipe and the lady who's garage it is has a 1971 automatic BMW 2002.
Has anyone got any idea of the value and where she might be able to sell it?
It was her deceased brothers, she hasn't got any keys for it and it is a non runner as far as she knoes!

50 year old BMW ,likely to have rust , unless dry stored .
Automatic not desirable unless cheap enough for a resto modder to pull it apart and put something much newer in its place .

A classic auction might be a good place to sell , no reserve , to make sure it sells , less hassle for the vendor , no tyre kickers .

What location , roughly ?

Depending no condition £250 to £100k!

I'm on the lookout for one, have seen so many adverts, if you wanted to send some details over I could give you a ball park. May even be interested myself.

ETA: changed to £100k, which is what a good turbo goes for...

An auction probably isn't a very good idea as it would probably cost more getting it to an auction than the car is worth.
The car is in Peckham in an underground garage, what I could see of the car it looks in pretty good nick. But as I said earlier it probably doesn't run and hasn't got any keys.

There is a bloke selling 2 shells on eBay for 5k, granted they’ve not sold yet. But it maybe worth more than you think.

Any complete unmolested 2002 - especially an early round tail light version - is £5000 if it's not completely f*ck*d.. You won't spend a tenth of that taking it to an auction.

In your position I'd be buying it for a couple of grand, getting the V5 and a key cut and flipping it after a good clean up and getting it running.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll have a word with the lady and see what she actually wants to do.
I haven't really got the time to try and get it running but someone I know has shown interest in buying it.
Is a 71 L an early one? it has got round lights.

If it's L reg it would be 72/3 unless re-registered in the UK on import as a secondhand car (not that unlikely as 02 BMWs were quite popular with service personnel serving overseas and iirc BMW had quite an active BFO operation in the seventies).

As others have said, even as a total resto car, they're worth a bit of money now but they do rot. Autos aren't that nice and do blunt the performance a bit but these days it wouldn't affect value too much.

Again, as others have said, keys and a V5 in the owner's name and then auction would be easiest. Alternative might be to give a company like Jaymic a call and see if they're interested
