just trying to settle a debate with a friend, i believe the 2014/15 F15 shape have the n57 engine and are known to have chain and oil pump issues.
im being told that the engine is not the n57 as that was in the earlier 2010-13 cars, is this correct?

if its not the n57 which one is it and are there any issues to watch out for?

It looks like it was the N57 all the way from 2012 to 2018.

There were slight variations in engine code though, possibly to denote single, double or triple turbo (and the little tweaks to support them):
  • 30d had the N57N
  • 35d had the N57N
  • 40d had the N57Z
  • 50d had the N57X
The B57 engine that superseded it was only put into the Gxx vehicles.

N57N engines from 03/14 onwards have the last revision of the chain - same as in B57, N47N and B47.

I have a 2016 X5 40d.

Should I be worried?

Any additional maintenance required?

Don’t worry, just change oil and filter every 10k miles.

And switch off stop/start. And add LM Ceratec with every oil change. Your road bearings and chain will love it.
