Hi, I'm looking for advice on purchasing a 535d. I don't want to spend more than around £6k. I always fancied a 535d, and I'm not afraid of high miles! I had an E39 530d with over 200k when I bought it, and loved it! I know it's going to be risky, but not necessarily more so than a 100k mile 520d from what I've read!

So LCI or pre LCI? Or should I just go for a 530d and a remap?

Thanks in advance!

They are old cars so may well need parts changing to be at their best. If you want a 535d get one, not a 530d. A mapped 530d won’t make a 535d. The E60/1 models have their common foibles but they are old enough that the internet has advice on most common problems.

If you’re paying someone to maintain/fix an old 535d it can soon add up.

Presume you are talking about the E61?
If you just want 535d levels of response, a 530d with a remap will mostly do, and save you potential turbo maintenance costs.

Pre LCI would be generally cheaper, the block is sturdier and solenoid injectors (check them before you buy!).
Post LCI you've got the snappier 6hp28, piezo injectors and a more widely used engine with some extra HP. Look nicer as well
