Buy a decent phone holder and use google maps? Haven't used a car satnav for about 8 years.

Here's the official route to take:

https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/shop/ls/dp/Base_MapUpdate...

Probably be a USB download for a 66 plate I'd imagine.

A subscription is required after 3 years, then it should be done over the air. My 66 plate 335d downloads on the hoof periodically.

I’ve the same model/year, and AFAIK, I don’t get any over the air updates.

Seeing how long it takes to download the maps to the PC and subsequently from the USB to the car, I’m surprised it would even update over the air smile

I take it yours is advance nav ?

And I think I'm right in saying that if you get the map update (as linked above) you don't get realtime traffic so, in my view, for journeys of any distance, it's pretty pointless. Just did a lot of UK driving and stuck with Google maps.

I've love to have it all on the actual BMW screen, but without the traffic subscription the journey times we laughably wrong!

You can have both...if you pay for both...although I've been asked to book it into a local dealer to get the USB map update done as the download was saying 236 hours...and I'd naively assumed the 'USB Map Update' meant I would be sent a USB stick with the map on.

Mine's a 2015 pre-LCI 320d touring with the NBT system, so no over-the-air option.

Traffic is a bit crap though. Nowhere near as good as google or live traffic on a TomTom/Garmin - and there's no way to put custom POIs/routes onto the BMW system.

Indeed. Ends up quite pricey to get the map update and subscription for which will still be inferior to Google Maps.

I wish I could get the Google Maps onto my BMW screen (2017, F36 Gran Coupe) but apart from some pricey aftermarket options it appears I can't.

Maps, and traffic, come in one of the packages. £99 last time I checked, but they also do a discount on Black Friday. Between 20% and 50%, over the last couple of years.
