Can anyone tell me if the F06 gran coupe had the option to spec with non run flats? (mine is 2016 if that matters) Just wondering as apparently if it did then if I switch my run flats to non run flats then I don't need to tell my insurance and at minimum be charged an admin fee for nothing!

Also any recommendations for good value non run flats? Currently have dunlop run flats on the front and michelin run flats on the back. They all have plenty of tread but one of the front ones has a slight bulge in the wall. (I believe non run flats are less prone to side bulges?)

Thanks!

I'm not sure what size your wheels are, but I had a nightmare with my F13 640d Coupe when I swapped from runflats to none runflats on the 20" wheels. I picked up 3 punctures over a really short space of time, so if I had my time again I'd just stick with the runflats rather than swapping them for normal tyres for sure.

Would you not have still got those 3 punctures if you'd driven the same roads at the same times on runflats - or are you suggesting it was runflat karma?

Definitely runflat karma!

The sidewalls are absolutely tiny on the 20" wheels, so for me the normal tyres weren't up to the task and the runflats being so much harder/reinforced suited the wheel/side profile so much better I think.

Don't get me wrong the normal tyres did improve the ride and the steering, but I definitely wouldn't swap them over again if I had another 640d. Plus I'd also go for the 19" wheel as well to help the ride a bit.

I might just replace the fronts with new run flats. I hear the Dunlop may be more prone to side damage than Michelin so might go to Michelin.
The 20s just look so much better than the 19s so will put up with the ride!

My F06 with 20s came with a new set of Goodyear F1 run flats on. 4,000 miles in and I got a puncture. Turns out that a 3" long iron bolt had gone through it. Thankfully was repaired easily. I was told that certain Pirelli runflats can't be repaired which is something to be aware of.

Can't comment on the relative performance of the Goodyear tyres but i'm happy that they stood up to this puncture.

Gone with a new pair of Bridgestone run flats for the front. The bulge is very minor but not worth the risk!

Nice one. I definitely think that you've made the right choice. thumbup

Having been stranded at the side of the road a couple of times in my old one with the normal tyres on(I noticed the third puncture I got when the car was on the drive luckily), I definitely think that the runflats suit the car better and the give you a bit of extra confidence/piece of mind I reckon.

I found that the Goodyear F1 Eagle 3 RFT actually we’re very decent (this on 20” and a G31 with adaptive suspension).
