F30 Brake Recommendation
Discussion
Hi all, it seems that I have the issue of warped disks on my 330d (standard brakes).
I am looking to replace the disks with some grooved disks from EBC, however I now have the conundrum of choosing between Green or Red pads.
Does anyone have experience of these pads and recommend which ones I should go for?
This is for everyday driving, and I don’t drive like I stole it (well, mostly).
Or are there any other recommendations?
Thank you

Currently have genuine disks and pads on them.
Would a new set of pads be better a bet? Or is there a way I can get rid of the deposits? (I have tried a few hard stops but it doesn’t seem to do the trick)
Pad deposits do make sense, as the brake judder is 75/25. I.e. most of the times I will get judder, but on the odd occasion it will be fine.

Not sure what is on offer these days...I had this issue years ago and instead of Pagids (after a second set of brand new Brembo discs had got judder again) went for Lockheed brake pads, just because those were the only ones available in a local shop...never heard of the brand. But worked ok, it took a couple of thousands miles for the old material to wear off.
Apparently these are good:

I wouldn’t bother with EBC. The best discs are OEM. These are Textar, Pagid or, Brembo. Personally never had an issue with Brembo. More than 60k on front discs and spirited driving.
Pads wise. Ferodo DS2000 are highly rated on forums for reduced brake dust and not too shabby on brake fade.
Done the EBC thing before. Red ate the disc. There was a lip to disc. Yellow disintegrated. It cracked. Green worked well but gave off too much brake dust. It had an oem feel to it.

+1 on OEM disks and pads - they are long-lasting and of known quality.
Cotswolds BMW does a great mail-order service with good prices - look up their parts website and email them ... I put OEM disks and pads back on our E91 320D after having a bad experience with ECP supplied stuff.

Another vote for OEM discs & pads; more so if you're looking to stay with standard blank discs
Also another vote for Cotswolds BMW; more so if you're part of a forum/BMW group as they offer group discounts then
OEM (IIRC) are ATE, Jurid & Textar, not sure re Brembo but could be wrong. Brembo discs have always been faultless for me, but tend to find their pads are s
te
ATE are very good; their ceramic pads are superb & very low dust
If you're not in a rush; Autodoc generally do very good prices for brakes, but their delivery times can be hit/miss. Best to sort via their app as you get the best discounts then; just do it all online, save the parts to favourites and then finish the order & checkout via the app
Re pad deposits; agree that some hard/safe braking is needed; so get the car up to speed on a clear section of a bypass/m'way, hard on the brakes until 30mph'ish a few times and then drive home, as normal, but try not to use the brakes too much and hopefully that should clear the deposits
But sticking calipers/pistons/sliders can cause similar issues too, so might be worth getting the brakes checked over by your indy mechanic too

I’ve already had both callipers replaced on the front.
Initially replaced disks and pads, but started getting even worse judder. Identified that only one calliper was working on the front.
I then found a set of calipers, genuine disks and pads removed off a low mileage car. The judder has come back now, but nowhere near as bad as when I only had one caliper working.
I have read on other forums of F series cars going through a couple of sets of pads and disks before the issue settled.
I had the car checked out last week, but Indy couldn’t find anything.
I can confirm the calipers are working fine, as they bite fine then get the judder.

I have standard discs and Ferodo DS2500 pads. The thing can take some punishment and stops well.
From what it sounds like you need to use the handbrake when stopping with hot discs and don't sit with your foot on the brake - that's when the pads leave a layer on the disc and your judder returns.
On an older car I had EBC reds and they were sh*te, couldn't cope with sustained hairpins and the pedal went hard on me (that means the fluid hasn't boiled and the pads just aren't 'gripping' the disc)
