Come across a snag with the latest map update Road Map EUROPE EVO 2021-3 -

when you use the BMW orndownload manager to pull down the latest map, it's 33gb.
So this exceeds the largest file size you can write to a FAT32 formatted disk.
And therefore you cannot use the USB update at all?

Anyone gone through this with BMW and got an answer?

Mine's the older NEXT maps not EVO, so don't know if it's different.

Do you put a single 33gb file on the stick? I thought you were supposed to unzip/uncompress it first and then copy the folders over to the USB stick. None should be larger than the 4GB FAT32 limit.

But I tend to get the dealer to do it, because I've paid for a map update - and the BMW Download Manager says it's going to take about 126 hours to download on a 1Gig connection rolleyes

BTW, don't you have OTA (over the air) updates available on your model?

Just doing the same (in my F85). I'm pretty sure my car has just read a 64GB ntfs usb stick which suprised me.
If yours doesn't, you can get tools to format larger usb sticks as fat32:

So it's a known issue -

the sat nav should only recognise FAT32 formatting.

I've got an email from Connected Drive helpdesk stating that i can take the car into the main dealer and they will do an update for me.

Not that convenient but at least it's done.

I've just double-checked mine and it's definitely reading an NTFS formatted usb stick and updating the maps.
What happens when you put an ntfs stick in your car?

Absolutely nothing - plugged in the stick but the map upgrade process does not start. Menu option for the upgrade not visible either within iDrive.
