Hi all,

Looking to replace my F01 shortly with a G11 and considering a G12. We have a sprog incoming so it seems the sensible way to go, but my Mrs is concerned about the length and it being a major pain in the arse. Only 14cm or so difference but then not a small car to begin with. Anyone got any experience?

Also AT miles per gallon figures differ wildly on the 730d and 740d, is there really much difference? Thinking 740Li anyway because my F01 sounds like a tractor, but they’re quite rare and 740ds seem to be better spec’d than their lesser powered cousin. Not overly bothered but if autotrader figures are accurate one does a combined 60mpg and the other 39. Although believing the former is difficult, it just seems such a big difference.

On the fuel economy: are you comparing 730d to 740d Xdrive (which I believe is standard on the 740d, at least in Europe)?

Yeah, are Xdrives really that much worse?

No experience of the G12 but I have a current G11 MHT 730d (sdrive) and had a G11 740d xdrive before that, the new mild hybrid 30d is very economical, 40mpg round town 55mpg easily on a run, the 740d was 10 mpg below that on each of those measures.

Don't compare the diesel in yours to the G11/12 as it's not the same and the B57 is much smoother than the N57 (much!)

For me I wouldn't want a car any longer than the G11 you're already sticking out of parking bays with the G11, in the picture below half the boot is over the back of the curb and the car is still sticking out a few inches so as a G12 it would be another 7 inches out or nearly a foot.

Probably because for the B57 they went back piezo injectors over solenoid....a lot of the B series engines is similar if not identical to the N series engines in a number of areas.
