Hi,
I currently have a 240 but I need to change it for an estate car. I can’t stretch to the 340 but the 335 isn’t out of the question however I remember when I was considering an E91(?) coupe that the 335 engine in that could be problematic which I think was the N54.

Having a bit of a search the N55 which is the later engine as found in the 235 is in the F31. Apart from the oil starvation issue if you track it (apparently) are there any other issues does anyone know?

Wikipedia states that the F3x only came with the N55 but Wikipedia has been wrong before.

Many thanks.

From personal experience, cam cover gasket oil leaks, coolant pump failure and header tank deconstructing itself, but a lot more reliable than the N54 which suffered with fuel pump issues, injector problems and turbo waste gate rattles in addition. The N54 was phased out around 2009 so you shouldn't see any in the ‘F’ series.
