Hi,
Only had my 745e for a few months and whilst I thought my olden days of modifying cars for fun (read 6.2v8 tuned to 850bhp) are over, clearly they are not…

Only doing it lightly this time around.

Found remaps from Superchips / racechips and tuning boxes all giving in the region of 60 bhp and 100Nm torque increase.

Are they worth the (black Friday) money?

Any opinions much appreciated.

Thanks!

IMO anything that's plug n play is bks...

Stick to someone who actually maps it physically and ideally uses a rolling road

This is the thing, Superchips map it, but just upload a generic map.

My concerns with that are:
- will the warranty on the car be void?
- what if there is software update, and it gets flashed at service

The car is new, and only mine for three years.

You're crazy to map a car whilst still in it's warranty period IMO. I'd wait until the 3 years is over personally.

Quite possibly… but then end of year 3 and goes back to the lease company. So no further joy beyond that.

All good and well saying that until it goes wrong.

BMW will know it’s been messed with even before you’ve driven it to them for remedial work.

You are probably right.

I also spoke to Superchips and they said they could not do it as the car is too new.

So maybe the above is my answer, and I just drive it harder for the time being wink Or until I can afford an M760, or Panamera Turbos S Hybrid.

Why do it in the first place TBH?

It's like folk with me that keep asking re my 730D "you gonna get it re-mapped"...?!

What for; just to chase numbers? The car pulls like a train & soon gets to license losing speeds...

Your 745e isn't exactly slow

They're waft-buses; designed to get you to wherever you're going in comfort & style

Part of me is asking the same question "why". It may be that I was chasing numbers (big numbers) for well over a decade with my V8s. Times are different now, I have changed, but it may be my silly DNA wink

The car goes rather well, yes. And for a 2t + barge, it steers and makes pace well. I would not use it here, but Germany is a totally different place, which I tend to go to.

Nevertheless, will leave it as the risk vs gain is just not worth it if goes wrong.

Hopefully the next 7 will be even more powerful, I can wait smile

I really wouldn't tune a rental when it's an £85k complicated hybrid, BMW will know and anything goes wrong will be big money, but if you're happy to pay to play (stand on if it goes bang) they get 600hp out of the 745e in the US, bimmerpost for details.

I'm on my 3rd G11 7 series and although they are great cars they are not that reliable, plenty of ghosts in the machine so plenty of opportunities for the system to flag a tune during warranty work.

Yeah, I have decided to pass, and wait till money is better, then just treat myself to something faster.

I don’t fancy taking the risk. Blew too many engines in my career (to include a 6.2v8)…

Ps. How have you managed to be on a third g11? They only came out in 2019? Or was the pre-LCI a g11 too?

Was any of the “trade-ups” caused by warranty / mechanical issues?

G11 was launched in 2015, we have the LCI versions but they are still G11s, I chop and change my cars often generally once every 12 months but as this is a lease I've locked myself in to stop me doing that.

I got rid of my 740d xdrive once it was out of warranty within 3 weeks it needed over 3k of work, kafas cameras failed one of the air spring/damper struts failed, thankfully I got goodwill from BMW.
