My parents bought a new 125i 3 years ago and are now debating whether to pay to continue the warranty on the car.

It's the 2.0 petrol with the auto gearbox.

How reliable is the 125i (and the auto box)? Should they bother paying out for either the Comprehensive or Named Component warranty?

Nothing has gone wrong with it so far. They've done a whopping 9k miles in it from new and look really look after all their cars.

Thanks.

I am in the same situation , mine is only a 118i & out of warranty on the 3rd January. Been faultless in the first 3 years 21000 miles.
£550.00 to renew zero excess & without BMW breakdown cover .

I may risk it !

It's a tricky one. I paid for continued warranty on some of my previous BMWs but that's because I felt like they needed it (E90 M3 particularly). I'm not convinced the 125i does need it but my parents want piece of mind.

It's not really clear, either, what Comprehensive gives you over Named Component for the extra money.

I might just advise them to go for Named Component with 250 excess and hope it never breaks.

Yes I think you may even get a good will gesture from bmw in year 3 to 4 based on the low milage full bmw service history. I agree if I had an M car then to put £1000 into a warranty every year that may be sensible.
