1st service - bear with me :)
Discussion
I have a Covid 530d. It was built in March 2020 and I actually got my hands on it in August as first registered keeper
The thing Im not sure about before I pick up the phone is when is the first service due?
On every other car Ive had its been set at the PDI and is whatever the interval would be from the new owner getting it
This car wants to be serviced in March, but confusingly somebody presumably at PDI has set the separate 3y warranty check or whatever they call it for August
Anyone know definitively please?
And I know it sat at the docks from March until it was eventually shipped across the Channel in August so the PDI cannot have been done sooner than this.
Cheers

On time alone, the first service is due 2 years from the build date .
I'd go with this. Consider that the oil was put in the car on the build, not when you picked the car up. So the servicing goes by when the fluids were put into the car and made a servicable vehicle. Sheepshanks said:
Hmmm..generally service indicator is either reset at PDI or, commonly, it doesn't start working until the car has done a couple of hundred miles.
Imagine if the car was on 12mth service intervals - are people suggesting OP would have to have it serviced at 6mths?
That's what BMW told me, yes. Imagine if the car was on 12mth service intervals - are people suggesting OP would have to have it serviced at 6mths?
Service is from date of build and warranty from date of registration.
My i3s was built and registered in Nov18, but I didn’t buy it until May19. Mileage was 10m at the time, so effectively lost out on 6 months warranty and needed servicing in 18m rather than 24. This was more than offset by the much cheaper price paid vs new.

Glad Im not the only one unsure, I'll mail BMW
Issue is complicated by the fact car is currently in storage - long story...........
I wasn’t guessing, The fact is the first service IS DUE 2 years from build date if you don’t hit the mileage. If anyone tells you different they are wrong ! Issue is complicated by the fact car is currently in storage - long story...........

We had the same issue which I was really pissed off by. We bought a 6 month old demo fro the showroom. When I asked about service intervals, the salesman told me "it's a two year interval so you don't need to bother about service for 18 months". 12 months later car tells us service due (car now on 6,500 miles ). I went and enquired, then told that the service interval starts not when the car is initially registered but months earlier at the factory as soon as oil goes in. What a typical BMW bloody con
After much complaining and a bit of a rant about the lying salesman, service was reduced by 100 quid. I think they get away with this mostly as a great proportion of cars that go through their service bays are either company or lease scheme vehicles where the drivers don't really give a toss as they aren't paying personally.

Why is it a con? The service starts from the build date, and some items, like fluids, deteriorate with time as much as by usage.

Wouldn't most private buyers of BMWs have the service package?Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
