Please excuse my lack of technical knowledge but perhaps someone who knows more can help.

I’ve just returned from 6 weeks out of the country so my 2020 G20 340i has been standing idle. Not surprisingly there’s a message on the screen saying the battery is very low. I have one of those battery conditioners that plug into the auxiliary power socket (used to be called the cigar lighter).

Does anyone know if the battery conditioner would work for me please?

CTEK MXS 5.0 is all you need, c£60 on Amazon

https://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-MXS-5-0-Reconditions...

Attach it to the charging points in the engine bay, NOT the battery itself and it'll have your battery conditioned and ready to use in no time...

As long as the battery hasn't dropped too low, it should be fine smile

Thanks. The car starts and runs just fine but the battery warning is still there. The battery conditioner I have is a Porsche part which works fine on my TVR through the lighter socket. I had hoped that’d work on the BMW but maybe not.

Unlikely it will work on the BMW, as power to the lighter sockets is managed by the car (you need a permanent live socket to use as a charger input).

That’s what I thought, thanks.

I use a ctek mx5s on my M6. I generally just keep it on all the time as it rarely gets used these days.

Well worth having one for any car that sees little usage. I probably should get one for the MGB, but given that it won't the used for a few months yet, I'll probably just put it on charge every now and again.

Aldi/Lidl special £15. I fully flattened a battery on my mx5 over winter a few years ago and it revived it, took a day or so but it did the job and the same battery is working OK today, on the same charger right now, learned my lesson there.
