Hi all,

After some help please. I won't go into detail but having some intermittent electrical faults that light the dash up like a Christmas tree that then goes as quick as it comes.

Anyway, a suggested solution is to test my existing battery (original I believe) and replace.

Can you please advise of the correct battery I will need or where I can find this out?

I have been quoted £230 plus £50 fitting for a Varta

Check the voltages first. Needs to be c12.4v with engine off and c14.4v with engine idling

Lower than either and that’ll be one issue, could also be alternator related

Check the specs on your battery, it’ll be an AGM but you need to see what the CCA and Ah specs are too

Go onto Tanya batteries and find the same spec battery and see what it costs, Varta etc. Look on Eurocarparts too…

Replace the battery like for like and it’ll only need to be ‘registered’ to the car, but change the specs and it’ll need to be ‘coded’ to the car…

£230 + £50 sounds a rip off to me… At that price I’d be asking your local BMW for a quote too!

You can also find a local battery reseller or someone that has the necessary tool to code your battery that’s local to you, on here etc smile

I did my neighbours X4 the other day, ordered the battery via Tanya and I registered it for him using Carly for BMW on my mobile

Thanks for the reply! I just found one on Tanbry for £169!
Now I just need to find someone to register it to the car.

Mentioned where you're located on here & you may find someone local with the right tool/software to register the battery smile

Ask ma few local indy garages, no doubt they'll have the tech needed, just offer them some £beertokens - it literally takes 5mins, you just swap the battery over first and then take your car to them wink

Not sure if the right one but I bought this recently for my 320d, so far so good.

Local indie charged £35+VAT for coding to the car (fitted myself).

What makes you think you need a new battery?

A few people have had random electrical issues and the battery change solved it. I’ve had it on the diagnostics at a bmw auto electrical specialist and he suggested that as the first thing to try. There’s about 20-30 error codes every time it wigs out
