Hi

My remotes ( I have 2) on the BMW 320D are no longer working, preventing me from locking the car. The central locking itself is fine if activated inside the car on the console button, but neither remote key is working to unlock or lock. The car stood idle for a few weeks over xmas in the cold, it took a bit of puff for it to start up initially, but is running fine. I would say that the internal heating system has been unusually sluggish to warm up.

Any ideas why BOTH keys would suddenly stop working? The garage replaced the key battery (or so they say) and that hasn't made any difference.

Cheers
Mark

What year/model is the 320?

I know on the E46 (1998-2005?) the battery in the key is charged when the key is in the ignition, the advice being that you alternate between the keys to make sure they are both charged.

It's possible, if the batteries in the keys are quite old, that they have gone flat during that period of not being used.

Also, not sure if there is some reprogramming to do if the batteries in the keys are changed?

They have batteries in them, worth replacing. Same age batteries...

I assumed that initially, but oddly both remotes (primary and back up) suddenly aren't working, both were fine. It'll be unusual for both to fail together.

The batteries on mine (2015 F32) went very close to each other, despite me using one key more than the other. However, they didn't both stop entirely working, instead the car told me the fob battery was low. I'd suggest the issue is in whatever receives the signal in the car.
