E46 Steering Wheel Controls for Kenwood ICE

I have a very nice Kenwood Android Auto double din stereo (DMX5020DABS) in my 2003 325ti and would like to connect the steering wheel controls. Have any of you done this? Kenwood seem to list an Adapter (CAW-CCANBM2) and Interface (CAW-CANUN2). Do I need both? I'm also unsure of what exactly I need to connect to on the car but want to get the right bits first... Many thanks!
