As have many with the F83, I fell victim to the amp frying saga through water ingress.

Somewhat narked at the expense, and the car being out of warranty, I thought some exploration was in order before fitting the new amp ( E Bay £650 programmed)

There’s lots of info re the cavity drains ahead of the rear wheel blocking, my passenger side was fine, although I did get a gallon out of the drivers side, however, I don’t believe this is the cause of the ingress to the boot area.

The cause with mine is the vent in the boot cavity where the amp sits. Arrow indicates where the water comes in.

The path of ingress is behind the back light.

The vent has now been temporary sealed on the inside, and I will monitor before ordering what I would imagine is a revised unit. Drivers side has the same affair in the battery compartment, but investigation found this to be bone dry.

However, I shall change both.

The notorious drain plugs.

And drainage ceremony.

Some testing with the jet wash has revealed no ingress thus far, but I have left the boot panel out so I can monitor it for a few weeks, and it’s good to have music back in the car !
