The M340i is the car I am wanting to get, but in order to make it uber secure are there any devices anyone can recommend?

I've found something called Autowatch Ghost imobiliser? https://jfautomotive.co.uk/product/autowatch-ghost...

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Disklok , a proper steering wheel lock unlike some I see which might as well not be there .

Had these in both cars for a number of years now. Can definitely recommend the Ghost.

Stoplock or disklock also act as a decent visual deterant.

I had an S5 and Polo GTI both stolen from our drive and I don't think there is one magic solution more a combination to reduce the likelihood of it happening to you.

Driveway post also worth considering.

Had my M240i for around 18 months now and had a Ghost fitted since the start pretty much, not had any issues with it seems to work perfectly, that said I suppose I will only really know if someone tries to steal the car.

I did around 3 years ago have an Audi A4 stolen from outside my house where they broke in and stole keys so i'm keen to hang onto this car, I know people say "well the car is insured let it go" but having been through it I don't want to repeat it. I have also beefed up my home security significantly since which no doubt helps too.

Disklok - preferably yellow for deterrence

I almost had a Ghost fitted to my 440i - haven’t heard anything bad about it. However, I did discover that BMW will potentially void/not honour the warranty on the car if one is fitted.

I bought a stop lock instead - but never use it…

Not if they don't know about it.

But won’t they need to go through the Ghost to start it at the dealer if it ended up in there?

Even if they don’t, I’m assuming they could easily trip over it when interrogating the car for codes etc?

Anyway, didn’t seem worth the risk to me. Pretty sure a stop lock (if I were to bother using it) would stop/deter most things other than a very determined attempt - ie if they really want it, they’ll have it.

Put the car in valet mode and it no longer required the code to start. Never had problems with BMW when it came to servicing etc.

I've had two different systems on two decent BMW's in recent years ...

Pandora Mini BT alarm and immobiliser via a BT tag (which I kept on my door keys, not the car key). It had anti hijack too which let them get maybe half a mile ? then slowed and stopped with the alarm and hazards going off (IIRC).

Meta S5 Deadlock was good too ... BT immobiliser not wired to their Tracker so if one found the other was somewhere else. Worked faultlessly but possibly overkill on my now 1L VW Polo lol.

I ruled out Ghost as I was not keen on having to tap in a code via buttons each time I wanted to move the car. I know they do a BT fob version but was put off that when I was told the range if my phone BT was on would effectively mean it would leave the car always disarmed where I lived. The Pandora was not like that re distance.

Just be aware there is more than Ghost out there that is good. I'm not suggesting Ghost is not good as thousands of people have it ... just one of these options and defo a Disklok or Stoplock Pro ... I have both of those and vary use according to where I am. Both great as an extra deterrent. Stoplock far easier to use but lesser in security (but not by too much I think) to the Disklok.
