F02 760 Questions
Discussion
Morning all,
I recently bought a 2011 760 and after giving it a once over a good service she's a lovely old thing - think I'm smitten and hiding fuel/general costs from SWMBO.
A couple of Questions;
1. Coming from a few S classes the ride is good if a little jiggly, surprisingly good on the 20s actually but I was wondering would 19's or maybe even 18s fit on this thing with larger profile tyres? Only reason I ask is the front caliper looks quite chunky so I think 19s most likely would but wasn't too sure on 18s.
2. After giving all filters, spark plugs and fluids a change as good practice I was going to spray some MAF cleaner on the MAF sensors however for the life of me I couldn't figure out where they are, does this thing have a MAF or is it MAP sensor if so does anyone know where they (I assume there's 2) are on the N74?
3. Can the rear fridge be removed - it hinders boot space so I just wonder if like my previous W221 I can have a rummage in the boot and remove the fridge to gain some extra holiday loading capacity?
Many thanks
Slim

Ref the alloys; I've dropped to 19" Style 351M's off an F10/11 and they're brilliant; had 20" Style 253s when I first bought my F01 and even with new suspension, full tracking & alignment, they tram-lined everywhere and that was on new non RFT tyres too
I got rid of them, bought 18" Style 234s for winter tyres & the car was a luxury waft-bus on those; IIRC they fit all F01/F02s, so should fit over your brakes fine

This is the project for my F01 FYI:

Interesting - I'm finding that too so I thought smaller wheels would give me the waft I'm looking for.
I checked out the 18's you mentioned it seems on ebay some sellers state it as compatible whereas on BMWs own website they state it's not compatible for mine
;
The high-quality 18'' M light alloy wheel lends the vehicle a striking athletic appearance with its exclusive look.
8J x 18. Single wheel, without tyre. Not for BMW 750d xDrive, 750Ld xDrive, 760i and 760Li.
The wheel and tyre combinations approved for your vehicle are available on request.

Re your thread I have actually been following that for a while - one of the reasons I looked into the F generation 7.

However, it could be that spacers will give you the clearance needed unless the brakes are really that big!
Where are you based; wondering if anyone local to you may have 18s or 19s that you could trial fit etc
I've found 19s to be the perfect middle ground; no tram-lining, comfy & quiet but give you the looks too.
Although TBH I really liked my 7 on the 18s; they didn't look out of place IMO
I think the brakes are 370/372 mm - I mean I expected them to be bigger on the V12 but didn't think they would be that big tbh.
The caliper looks about the same size as my uncles M5 caliper so in technical terms I think I can squeeze 2 fingers between the 20 inch wheel and the caliper back on the 7.
So since you went from 20 to 19 was there a noticeable difference in ride and tram lining?
I mean I really like the look of the 20s but my previous S Class buckled its 20s so I put on a set of 17s and the ride quality was amazing literally gliding and never had to worry about tyre bulging or cracked alloys again.
I am down in Bedfordshire I may just ask a few petrol heads in the area if they have one for me to try over the front calipers.

Well I went from 20s to 18s and now on the 19sThe caliper looks about the same size as my uncles M5 caliper so in technical terms I think I can squeeze 2 fingers between the 20 inch wheel and the caliper back on the 7.

The ride on the 19s is superb; firmer, but not stupidly and no tram-lining at all; running 245/45 and 275/40 19" tyres - Still smooth on long journeys and great on country roads. Even the local country roads to me the cars great; it follows the road rather than the camber; which the 20s were sods for!
The 18s were superb; but winter tyres = softer compounds; so they do make the car more waft-bus like and a bit 'wollowy' on some roads... But that's not a bad thing!
When I had my previous Jap import E39 touring; I went from OEM 17" Style 66s to 18" Style 37s, 18" LMs and then back to 17" Style 66s... The car drove & handled the best on the 17s!
I prefer comfort over looks now TBH... More so in a 7'er!
Thanks for the response Dan I will consider a decent set of 19s - I have to admit it feels good being back in a petrol after years of diesels you forget how much smoother and quieter a petrol engine car actually is.
I did not know that Helix - looks like I will be on the Google to learn about this some more.
