Hi guys apologies if this has been covered before but new m2 owner here. It’s a 2016 car so the older n55 model. It has a strange whining sound coming from the front I’ve been told it’s the diff making this noise and it’s a common thing with the car, also searched this online and found a few searches mentioning similar issue. Is this the case? It happen as slow speeds when setting off at rolling speeds sounds like a bad wheel bearing or something it’s annoying tbh sounds like something is broken lol also coming from a golf R it feels quite steering at Lower speeds too. I’ve not had a bmw for a good 3 years now so maybe not used to it anymore but certainly a lot heavier on the steering is this also normal, noticed it when test driving m4 too. As I knew it would be it’s also very harsh and stiff on the bumps lol

The diff is at the back so probably not that.

What mileage?

Could be a number of things like an auxiliary belt on its way out.

It could also be normal and you have new car paranoia.

Do you have a warranty?

I think it’s from the front I could be wrong. Do these cars generally have a whining diff though as seen a few related posts online now but then again the internet can exaggerate things if you read into it too much. Cars on 32k, I have a used car dealer warranty but not a BMW one atm

Mine doesnt whine. If the noise is from the front then it can't be the diff. Can you try and record the noise and post it.
Failing that perhaps have it looked at by a specialist with experience of those cars. You should be protected for the first 6 months anyway, irrespective of warranty (which rarely cover anything).
