I’ve not driven one yet, but I quite fancy the idea of an i8 as the next car. I’m fine with the small boot, but I do need to park it in car parks.

I’ve read and heard that it’s hard to get in the car if someone parks close to you, but how much of a problem is this really? I don’t fancy getting stuck at the station or waiting around at a supermarket for someone else to return…

It was a huge consideration when I bought my i8 3 years ago. I test drove and did real world stuff such as parking at a supermarket etc on the test drive (bmw lady distinctly unimpressed).

You do have to be more careful. Better to remove the issue with an end space, which means you're in control of your destiny.

The difficulty is, that unlike a normal door, where you can 'breathe in' and squeeze back in, you'd have to get on your hands and knees if it was really really tight.

In 3 years, i've had to squeeze in just twice. End spaces, or carparks where you make your own space are the answer.

Mine is my daily drive. The only change that I made, is to use Uber to go to airports.

You can lower a window with the remote, but a coupe would be a tight squeeze. Get a roadster and just lower the roof wink

Cheers - sadly, the budget doesn’t stretch to a roadster! Twice in 3 years doesn’t sound awful, albeit that picking a space might be painful… Some questions would be answered just by looking at one in person and opening the door a crack, but nothing beats real world feedback. smile

In that case, stick a child seat in the back and use the parent and child spaces! smile

Ha! At the local supermarket the EV spaces are wider for some reason… Station is a little bit of a concern,

I tried one at my local dealership while my 650 was being serviced. I'm very glad my wife wasn't there to witness it, she would have pi**ed herself at the sight of me falling out of the i8 trying to look cool.

Very striking cars though, they still look sci-fi

This is me in a car park in Bournemouth. It looks like you need lots of space but the reality is that you don’t. There was a thread a few years back with pics of a PHer parking his in quite tight spots.
