Our BMW has broken down over due/ past it’s 3 year service and BMW Sytner Nottingham want to take the engine apart to see what’s wrong , minimum £4.5k . Appreciate its my fault re: the service but I’m a working mum and this is crippling frown is there anyone locally who could give me some advice rather than me giving Sytner my hard earned cash. 💔 I swear they see a woman coming … reaching out on here in desperation !

Bit harsh on them? Engine strip is never going to to be anywhere near cheap at a main dealer.

Independent garage will be cheaper. Used engine as an option? Depends exactly what had failed on yours I guess...

It did originally say it was an M3.

I'd definitely be going to an Indy for that sort of job.

Maybe one on here:- https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

It sounds like another dead N47. A used second hand engine may be the best way forward. Then sell it to WBAC.

Used engine or sell it as spares on eBay would be your best choices

We need some more information from the OP as sounds like a 3 year old car? Which means it would be a B47 which aren't without issues although rare.

What year and mileage is the car? If it's low mileage there technically isn't a 3 year engine service, it would be every 2 years.

Something is fishy here. BMWs do not have a "3 year service". They are 2 years or 18k whichever comes first.

Has the car ever been serviced and on time? It sounds like to me the car is out of Warranty rather than overduie a service (unless of course its never been serviced!)

Parkside Garage in Worksop, 01909 506555. They are generally very busy, but an outstanding specialist.

It would be useful to know when between 1999 and 2018 it was built though. I suspect the engine has destroyed itself due to running on filthy old oil. In which case, it needs an engine. You're looking at almost ten grand at BMW for an engine, turbo and labour and if the failure is due to neglect, you are coughing for the whole lot.

I'd get the car out of Sytners and sharpish.
