I drove over something on the M56 that went through the tyre and left that hole on it's way out (at least I'm assuming that's how it went).

I know Manchester was rough but didn't realise they had IED's lying about.

Blimey, bet that made a bang as it did it. No other issues with the suspension I hope?

Yes, it was q bit loud, but a curssory inspection of the brakes and suspension didn't reveal any other damage. When I get the replacement wheel I'll give it a more thourough look over.

Did you drive over a gun and it went off!?!

If that is the "exit" is there any corresponding damage inside the wheel arch or opposite side of that rim? That's quite some force.

Can't see any other damage on the wheel or in the wheel arch.

Has the tyre got a corresponding hole in it? I'd expect an in to out penetration of that force to have more tearing on the exit site akin to this https://images.app.goo.gl/CkCsh7naH8Ht1cuP9 so I am wondering whether that is some form of metallurgical failure in the wheel. Might be worth having a close look at the damage site after reading this https://www.robsonforensic.com/articles/metallurgy... - if the tyre isn't damaged.
