8 series grand coupe
Discussion
I’m looking at a used 8 series gran coupe (probably a 2020 model). I test drove the 840i which I liked and then the 850i which I really like!
Looking around there are lots of 840i models but less of the 850i. I’ve largely discounted the 840d, but happy to hear any thoughts on it.
Any insights into living with them would be appreciated, including must have spec items. Ideally I wanted full comfort seats like my last five (which chewed rear tyres for fun), but all seem to have the sports seats.
Thoughts on a rear wheel v all wheel drive would be appreciated too.
If you’ve got one, do send some pictures as I’m working up combinations and a wish list.

Some good reading here once you skip towards the parts of the thread where they actually arrive rather than pricing

That is really nice. Definitely the interior that I want and one of the external colours i’m looking at. What’s it like to live with (noting it’s big) and any spec items you would/wouldn’t want?
My head says the 840i, but my heart says 850i.
I drove the 850, it's a lot of car, and a lot of money!
The 850 is fully appointed with extras though, things like heated steering wheel and ACC and blindspot are standard. These are cost options on the 840 (ultimate pack). Would've liked ACC and blindspot.
Got Pano roof, and HUD, which is very good in conjunction with nav directions. The BMW idrive is a bit of a pain, and I ignore it a lot of the time..
I like the dechromed look on mine, with the dravit great and cognac interior, it gets admiring comments when out on a sunny day after a wash and wax.
Yes it's a big car, but nimble enough, and driving LGVs and big old mercs previously, it didn't present a problem.
Good space in the back, and the boot.
I find it comfortable, a nice space to be in, plenty of get up when required, although it's not pretending to be rapid like the 4.4 V8 of the 850.
MPG about 30.

They are very well specced as standard to be honest. I only took privacy glass and crystal clarity controls and added the black grille in terms of any extras. Mine is an 840 GC in Carbon Black with Cognac leather. The buy price for my lease is 50k so I expect it to pop up around this price when it's returned end of June. Its got 11k milesLooking around there are lots of 840i models but less of the 850i. I’ve largely discounted the 840d, but happy to hear any thoughts on it.

What are your thoughts 2 years in and would you have preferred a 850i?
I think clean 2020 models are going for upto £54k.
Any pics of it?
Do they do one without a body kit?
Currently very happy with my 640i SE GC, without the body kit or sports exhaust, which I reckon is one of the most elegant discreet cars they ever built (and as quick as my old 996). Sooner or later I’ll need to get something else but the 840i GC looks a bit brutalist frankly.
