BMW Efficient Dynamics 2014
Discussion
Hi!
Very new to BMWs but considering one on the basis that my family have always driven them, and I've heard raving reviews.
I'm looking at a 2014 2.0 320d ED EfficientDynamics 3 series tourer, with about 100k on the clock. I was just wondering if i could get any input from people who have them/have driven them, and BMW fanatics in general.
Would 100k worry you? The car seems to have regular service history at BMW garages, 2 previous owners and looks fab condition. I'm told it's a timing chain not belt on them so they don't need replacing?
In terms of the ED models, how are they to drive? Are they very different from standard 3 series?
Finally, I'm just wondering about noise.. how would you rate them in terms of quietness (engine noise road nose etc).
Thanks so much in advance for any input!
Jen

We had one for 4 years and 120k miles on a 64 plate
Great car, hard to fault really, easy to get close to 70mpg on long runs and I think ours averaged 57mpg over its time with us
Power wise I doubt you’d notice it has 163 rather than 184 bhp
We had an auto business edition with nav, heated seats etc and non runflat 16” wheels which gave it a good ride comfort
When we got rid it drove, felt and looked like it did when we got it
Nice car, not the most exciting or dynamic thing but a very good all round tool

I’ve got a 320d ED. Best mpg I’ve had on a long run was 67, sitting at the speed limit. The engine doesn’t sound great when driving around town or accelerating hard but most of the time you can barely hear it. Cabin is quiet. IIRC the ED has a bit more torque than the standard D. Timing chain can be an issue with these engines although it’s claimed that oil changes at 9k can prevent premature wear causing chain slip/skip.
