May 31st bought a 2022 230i in Brooklyn Grey with the red leather interior. Traded in my 18 month old 8100 mile 2020 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack.

Have put around 100 miles on the BMW and I'm liking the car more and more as every mile passes under the car.

I said "first BMW" but my 1st real exposure to "BMW" was my 2018 MINI Cooper S JCW (bought new in Dec. 2017). That JCW was a real fun car to own and drive.

The 230i has more power but is heavier. But it comes with 19" wheels and high performance tires (vs the smaller (18") wheels and run flats the JCW came with) and is of course rear wheel drive while the JCW was front wheel drive. The JCW was fitted with a 6-speed manual while the 230i comes with an 8 speed automatic.

But like I said above the 230i is really growing on me.

Yes they are. Standard wheel size is 18" and I think these come with all season tires. But 19" wheels and high performance tires are an option. There are several different wheel designs, too.

I "built" an example online and that is what I recall.

Congats OP, hope you enjoy it.

I've only seen one new shape 2 series on the road and I couldn't believe what presence they have - great looking car.

Yes they look very good, there is one in my road and even the rear works well "in the real world" unlike in photos.

I wonder if the OP's choice of engine isn't the sweet spot of the range what with its lower mass, all of it behind the front axle (presumably), 2wd and in light of current fuel prices (although perhaps not such a big issue in the States).

I'd like to think I my choice was the sweet spot.

My "best" car was my 2002 Porsche Boxster. The mid engine location was part of what made it the best car. But the "balance" the car had was the other part of what made it the "best". Just the right amount of power, braking, weight, luxury, and cost. Just an overall superb car. And I drove it to 317K miles. (If there was a Porsche dealer in my area I'd have a Cayman. While I loved the Boxster I never put the top down. I bought it for the mid engine layout. The car having a soft top was a trade off to get the mid engine layout.)

This 230i is no Boxster but it has considerable "balance" nonetheless.

My previous cars (2020 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack: 485hp; and before that my 2018 Dodge Challenger Hellcat: 707hp; were all about power. There was no real balance with either car.

Closing in on 600 miles on my new BMW. Have booked the car in for its first (and early) oil/filter service tomorrow (Thursday). It is my habit to have the engine oil/filter service done early for all my new vehicles and the BMW will get the same treatment.

Gas mileage is just at 30mpg. About 2x better than what the Scat Pack managed under the same conditions. And gasoline here is up to $5.099/gallon. Yeah, not bad compared to some areas but still...

No I am not having to cut out food to afford gasoline but still it is nice this new car is easier on gasoline than my previous car.
