Does anyone know what this but in a green circle does? I’ve seen it blink away whilst driving. I suspect it’s some form of a driving aid but been told it’s a camera , which can’t be right.

It's just looking at your face to check you are actually paying some degree of attention. I've got an old Lexus with an equivalent system, basically if you doze off (possibly quite a risk given the average age of Lexus buyers back then) it stops the car. It also makes sure you don't take the piss with the semi-autonomous driving (or as we used to call it before the market wk was applied... Radar cruise control with Lane Keep Assist). It doesn't notify police or anything, it just gets angry and switches off the fancy mode.

It allows the system to know you’re still paying attention, without you having to have your hand on the wheel, as other systems require. Can see the benefit there.

I’m happy with none.
It’s a machine I drive from a to b.
I’m capable of driving, done it for years.
If I’m not ie too tired I don’t drive - I’m capable of making that decision all by myself because I’m an adult.
Don’t think I need the car recording me.

If available, I always look at the digital speedo rather than the clock speedo nowadays. I wonder if the clock speedo will be made redundant.
However, I prefer the rev. counter as a clock.

Likewise, my Porsche may as well not have a Speedo dial.
But that bmw rev counter going backwards is all sorts of wrong.
