Hi all, looked through my oil filler cap and saw a line on the camshaft. Ran my finger and nail through it and cannot feel anything, so doesn’t seem to be scored/scratched. It’s a 2018 540i with 22k miles.

Is this normal?

Thanks

I don’t think I’d worry about it - especially as you can’t feel anything.

I'd keep an eye on it over time. What is the service history like? I know BMW like to recommend looooooong oil service intervals, butI always think it's better to halve them (say 10,000 mile intervals). hat beign said, this is very low miles really, and what you are seeing might be a result of the initial running, like the first few hours or something.

But yea, just monitor it over the years to come, and if you see any glittery deposits in the oil or anything in the oil filter then that'd warrant further inspection.

Took it to BMW specialist just now, he said absolutely nothing to be worried about and perfectly normal

Good news, but I’d still be tempted to do an interim oil change because the B58 is capable of big distances between services.
