Afternoon,

Im getting a bit bored with my e63 630. Had it two years and just getting an itchy bank card. I like the newer 6 series and Ive been looking for a petrol (Bristol CAZ!) Does this look like a good buy? It is one of the first of this shape being a 2010 plate (despite their description showing it as a 2012.

The MOT is a bit weird.

LD10 DJD Mot page says its a Diesel and first reg 2012. But isnt that a 2010 reg?
The photos show the Rev counter going all the way around to 7K which must be a petrol and shows 640i rather than 640d on the back.
Its also got some weird M badges on the wings and boot, being a SE spec Ill be getting those off

https://www.carshop.co.uk/used-car/BMW/6%20SERIES/...

Reasonable at £14K?

Looking at the interior/steering wheel, the car looks like it's done a lot more miles than the advert.

Budget tyres all round and the bodywork covered in tar spots (that's an easy fix, but hasn't been prepped well).

I think you could do better for £15k.

Good point about the steering wheel, does look scratched up doesn't it. The MOT and Miles look ok, but perhaps its not been looked after. The tyres I would replace. Ill keep looking

Well I’ve bought it. Went to look at it in my lunch hour and it’s now been prepped and looks better in the flesh than those photos. Collect it tomorrow or Saturday once my funds have transferred from savings to bank. Spent a good 15 minutes explaining I didn’t want a loan at 8.8% almost felt sorry for young guy selling it to me.

Bought 2 years warranty with it, time will tell if I need it and if they actually help. But it’s an old big complicated car so figured it might be better than being on my own if it breaks in a few weeks.

Looks tidy under the bonnet although I was surprised to see the same oil cooler as fitted on my 630. Complete with a previous leak that has now been fixed. I would’ve thought given this was a common issue on the e63 they may have tried something else. I’ll clean that up.

Exhaust tips look nasty so I’ll try and replace those with with some newer ones. I’ll also replace those tyres before the winter. Seems a fair bit quicker than the 630, keyless go and lots of other tech I don’t have on my current cars.
Much better place to sit than my 630 (which I will keep for now ) and looking forward to collecting it.

Wish me luck!

Looks a nice car, I think re the steering wheel it looks like the previous owner may have been wearing a ring or two and that has caused the damage, my 2 series wheel has somewhat similar marks from it's previous owner.

Enjoy the new purchase

I have an 18 plate 640D, and I am surprised at how little difference there is on the interior!
Looks like a good car for the money!

I had a 640i after my old 645ci and really liked it; mine was a 2012 M Sport which I preferred to the look of the SE but yours looks like it has a decent spec with the reversing camera; pretty uncommon colour too.

I didn’t realise these were on a 2010 plate but wiki confirms the first cars came out at the end of 2010 so yours must be a very early car!

Thank you all. Can’t wait to pick it up tomorrow.

The 2010 plate confused me too…. It’s actually a 2012 on a private plate…. 🤷🏾‍♂️

These are on my list st some point, I have spent so much on my 630i I couldn't part with it for a while yet.

Would be interested to know how you find the engine note In comparison to the NA 3.0 and how the performance differs.

Having owned an M140i with the B58, I think the older cars sound better but performance wise the newer engine is on another level.

From a cold start the 630 sounds better without a doubt. I know it’s no V8 or M6 V10 but the e63 630 sounds better. Does have that slight burble/rumble

The newer 640 is very quiet by comparison, even at full Revs it just sounds more muted.

But good lord it is quick… again, I know it’s the smallest engine in the range but in a straight line is just keeps going. 0-60 is about 5 seconds I think. No turbo lag like I’ve experienced in diesels either. I’ve only done a few miles back from the garage and then another local trip but I’m very happy so far.

Happy with all the new tech in the 640 that is missing from the 630 too. Bluetooth audio streaming from my iPhone for example. There seems to be a hard disk full of music in this car somewhere I found it in the audio media menus, just a list of stored music but I have no idea how to wipe it or copy to it. I’ll have to read the manual I guess.

Almost feel sorry for my 630…. Sat there having been demoted to the back of the drive whilst the new sexy girl has arrived in town. I’ll drive the 630 later so she knows she not been forgotten!

Congrats!

What's the plan with the 630?

Agree that the 630 is a great sounding car (think it sounds better than my E91 330), might be to do with the spit tail pipe exhaust?

There should be an option in the idrive to wipe all personal data, in stored music. When I sold my M140i it was relatively easy to do (mine also had a load of music stored on the hard drive).

There is a usb slot in the glove box; just put all your music on a stick and plug it in and the idrive should give you the option to import. It handled all file types without any issue.

Agree with the exhaust note; the 640i is a much more tame car than the previous gen; almost more stealthy in its application.

Yup; was the same with my previous 2011 F01. However, I left the music on the USB stick; much easier to use and smoother, as trying to load it onto the iDrive took an absolute age etc

What version of the nav was that running? My 140i was in id6 and using the hard drive was dead quick and easy. I liked having some back up music for when I was in placed like Wales where signal can be patchy meaning no streaming.

It was the ProNav, but on the original maps. I got the 2022 maps update via USB and that uploaded via the USB port in the glovebox

I wonder if the older ID5 that I assume yours had was slower than the ID6 I had. There was no noticeable delay in using the music stored on the car.
